Day 154: Country Bum

Beautiful boho, gypsy inspired painted cabinet. The link below to Las Vidales has lots of pieces of furniture similar to this one, using vibrant base colours with hand painted flower and bird images which look lovely- check them out. They look great as a stand out point in a neutral room decorated with some living greenery and vintage knick knacks.

Day 128: Disposable Decoration

Its pretty brave painting a whole wall in black paint but this dining room looks amazing with the fresh country style shelving and table set, then decorating with big drawings, shopping lists and signs using coloured chalk.

Day 117: Mapping Out The World

I love the way all the frames have a theme in this room- maps. It could be places that have special meaning or just cool stylised maps that all work together well. I have one of Manhattan that is actually just wrapping paper that I framed but it looks amazing, plus its so much cheaper than buying a proper map!

Day 113: Retro Detailing

This dining room doesn't feel cluttered but there are actually quite a lot of bits a pieces on the cabinet and table. But keeping a general theme of colours, retro feel and interesting shapes ties them all together and brings detail to the room but not being too over bearing.

Day 92: Folk House Feelings

I guess I probably wouldn't want to actually live here... but really love the strong, dark wood against the delicate blues and floral prints. Gives a country, mountain hut feel!

Day 5: Girly Pink Dining Room

Soft pinks with farmhouse table and light natural wood for a girlie mix of country dining room and modern living. Great way to fill a fire place and am loving the stained ends of the table to bring some contrasting colour to the room.

Sunday Flea Market Finds

Yesterday we went to the Giant Vintage and Flea Market at the Bath Racecourse for the first time. I was a bit sceptical as generally things like this in Bath are either really over priced or really over hyped and I was even more doubting when we had to pay £3 entry. But I'm happy to say I was proven very very wrong.... it was great. There were loads of different stalls from general vintage things to retro furniture, cute floral crockery, kitsch kitchen stuff, vintage magazines, lighting, mirrors, clothes and everything in between. And most of it was pretty reasonably priced, of course there were some sellers that priced things way too high but most were surprisingly cheap. Plus you can haggle for everything and get an even better bargain (not that I'm any good at it!).

I didn't really know what I was looking for when we went so came back with quite a few things. All of which I love and am really happy with but all of which made my boyfriend say 'do we really need that?' And all girls will know the answer to that!!

Anyway, if anyone lives in or near Bath make sure you check it out, the next ones on Sunday 20th May, and here are the things I got.....

This vintage bevel edged mirror is my favourite find, especially as I've been looking for one for a while now and blogged about mirrors a few weeks ago (have a look here). I love that its slightly worn in some places so doesn't look too new. Also I go it for £20 as the lady didn't want to have to drag it back to her car- such a bargain!!

I know this is not a necessity, especially considering it is never hot enough in the UK to use a fan but its just really lovely and the colour is great, plus it was only £6 so if I come to my senses and realise it is just an old plastic fan in a few weeks its wasn't too much of an investment.

This is just a sweet little jug but I thought the unusual shape was great, and it makes a perfect flower vase for the shelf!

Then finally I got this pillow as well. Not massively exciting but its taking pride of place on the sofa for the moment!

Vintage Mirrors

I am completely and utterly in love with vintage mirrors. Square, circular, beveled edges, victorian, art deco, on the floor, hanging, solo or with lots of others. They give a great romantic, chic feel to a bathroom or bedroom and can tone down a modern room really well making it a bit friendlier.

Below are some of my favourite ideas and 'wish I had these' mirrors and you can check out some more vintage mirror inspiration HERE on my Pinterest page.

Rainbow Rooms

Today colours, colours and more colours are inspiring me and here are some ideas for bringing a bit of over the rainbow magic into your house. Do you reckon you're brave enough to have these colour coded rooms all in one house?

Red... Be bold by creating strong differentiation between the cornacing, wall and skirting boards for an amazing statement room. Pinterest

Orange... Bring in various shades of the same colour with pillows, lamp shades, rugs and wall hangings for a really colour coded room. Better Homes and Gardens

Yellow... Colour doesn't always have to come from paint. Matching coloured fabric hung on the wall with a bed throw of the same tone can make just as much of a statement and give a bohemian feel. The Decorista

Green... Again an example of bringing in statement colours to a room without using any paint. Allt I Hemmet

Indigo...Go crazy and use both colour and pattern in the same room, somewhere like a utility room where you don't spend much time but can still make a statement. Apartment Therapy

Violet... Clean and simple colour on the walls using a dirty purple tone that is modern but the patterned throw and old painting bring warmth and detail. Design Sponge

Window Sill Herb Garden

Inspired by Shrimp Salad Circus' homemade spoon herb markers, I decided to make my own, they look really fun and my boyfriend could not tell you which was basil and which was thyme if his life depended on it, so they are also really handy too! Also I replanted our rosemary plant in an empty olive oil tin to make a little window sill herb garden...

To make the spoon markers: I just bought some old spoons from the flea market and hammered them until they were flat, scored in the letters then went over with a black permanent marker just so the word showed up better.
